This energy rebate is nothing more than a political stunt. We should be encouraged to reduce our energy consumption and thereby our carbon footprint rather than having electricity bills subsidised by government payments. The whole idea of the government donating taxpayer money to energy companies so that they can give taxpayers reduced energy bills is obviously absurd and does absolutely nothing to actually reduce energy costs. Also there appears to be no income or needs tests for eligibility, multi-millionaires don’t need energy bill relief. Cost of living relief should be given by the tax office based on income and much better targetted to people who do actually need it.
